Monday Morning

It's 5:45.  I've been up for an hour.  Sleep was good, but I'm anxious to hit the road!

Anyway, we're thankful to Lynn and Don for letting us stay with them. Our original plan was to spend the weekend with them.  But plans change and we pushed the departure date of our trip back a day and decided to spend only Sunday afternoon/evening with them.  San Diego to Phoenix is a quick trip so we'll plan to revisit sometime in 2008.

Tony just got up and headed for the bathroom.  Looks like we'll be able to head out before 7 this morning.  We're jumping on the 101, then heading north on 17.  The old (4 years) Prius will have to do some climbing.  But I believe we'll be staying under 7000 feet, the magical altitude where Ms. Prius starts whining a little heavier.  We're also planning to stop at the meteor crater east of Flagstaff and then just continue journeying east.   I'll take some photos and If I can figure it out, will post some with this blog.  Hey, is anyone reading this?  If so, leave a comment.

Did I mention how Phoenix has grown?  Oh, my goodness!  For those familiar, new housing begins at the corner of Hwy 85 and Interstate 10.  Yes, a lot of the cotton fields have been replaced with housing.  And where there aren't houses, you'll find shopping malls.  The city Goodyear used to be isolated.  Now one can't differentiate between the previously small towns west of Phoenix.

Finally, thank you to Lynn and Don.  Next time I promise we'll stay longer.

I am so glad you are doing this. I actually thought about it this morning when I was in the shower - how cool it would be if we could hear about your travels! And now we will.

I wish you safe travels (don't be fallin' in no crater now)...and enjoy every moment.

PS - Nice job on the bloggin' Bets, I didn't know you had that literary talent in you!

This is fun to see where you are on your journey. We called and got no answer on Sunday, didn't think we had missed you yet, but guess so! See you next week.

Wow. There is housing all the way out at 85 & I-10!?! Geez. And there aren't any barriers preventing them from going even farther west. Yikes! It's only been three years since I've been there too!

Isn't it weird how we used to be there all the time and now I haven't been there in over 4 1/2 years. Craziness! Glad to hear you're off to a good start, Betty. Where were you planning to spend tonight??

I've heard the crater is way off the main road in that area. Did you have to travel off the beaten path to get there?

Yes, it's about 6 miles off interstate 40. Feels more like 60 miles when ya gotta pee!
